Blaze damages unoccupied house in Ypsilanti

by Jo Mathis | The Ann Arbor News
Sunday March 01, 2009, 10:00 AM

An unoccupied house on Ypsilanti's south side was heavily damaged by fire Friday night.

City firefighters were called to 1004 Jefferson St. at 10:26 p.m. and discovered heavy smoke and flames.

Ypsilanti Township and the city of Ann Arbor each sent one truck to assist, and all off-duty city fire personnel were called in to battle the blaze in the two-story rental structure.

The kitchen and basement stairway were destroyed and the rest of the house received heavy heat and smoke damage, according to Capt. Dan Cain.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other properties were affected. Firefighters were on the scene for an hour and 40 minutes
