Students were evacuated from a University of Michigan residence hall early this morning after a small fire was intentionally set in the hallway of a lower floor, campus police reported.
The fire was reported at 1:38 a.m. in West Quad. The residence hall's sprinkler system extinguished the fire quickly, said Diane Brown, a spokeswoman for the campus police.
Brown said fire damage to the floor's carpet and the door of a nearby room was minor. Several rooms were damaged by water.
U-M police are investigating along with the university's fire marshal.
